A todos nos pasa al principio... decimos hostia qué batería, coño qué bajista... pero es que hay un guitarrista que para mi está al mismo nivel que ellos.
Lifeson es una mala bestia, un genio, y además no se encorsetó en la típica manera de tocar de los 70, fue listo, se abrió al uso de los efectos, sintetizadores... El guitarrista de su época que más evolucionó, sin lugar a dudas.

Fans Celebrate ‘Rush Day’ on 2-1-12
Welcome to February and a day that for many will represent anything but a normal start to the calendar month. That’s because fans of Rush and progressive metal worldwide are celebrating today’s date, 2-1-12, as ‘Rush Day!’
2-1-12 of course lines up nicely with the title of the Rush album ’2112,’ (see our recent look back at the album, which we did in honor of our 2,112th post) which is a hallowed platter of music that has provided hours of headphone listening and mental dissection for a nation of prog lovers since it was first released in 1976.
Author Jeff Wagner, who wrote the book ‘Mean Deviation: Four Decades of Progressive Heavy Metal,’ calls ’2112′ “probably the first album that can rightfully be called progressive metal.” Wagner and other Rush fanatics are leading the charge to honor their Canadian rock superheroes by listening to the album in sync today as a sort of pre-game activity, since we’re 100 years away from the actual year 2112.
So if you’re walking down the street today and feel like you’re experiencing this strange phenomenon where everybody around you is listening to the same damn album – you probably won’t be crazy.
As Wagner says, Rush fans should seize the opportunity to “blast the album from the rooftops, from our cars, from our iPods, from everywhere, to celebrate this landmark album and Rush’s incredible longevity and lasting influence.”
RushRadio.org will host the world’s largest streaming Rush listening party tonight at 9:12pm (in all time zones), inviting fans to join in on an online chat “as we crank this epic album and fill the world with our music.”
Unless you’re cryogenically frozen, RushRadio points out that today is the closest that most of us will get to being able to celebrate 2112 in our lifetime. As a result, they’re urging everyone to “celebrate and assume control!”

Rush ‘Clockwork Angels’ Album To Be Novelized By Popular Sci-Fi Author
The forthcoming ‘Clockwork Angels’ release from Rush continues to grow in scope with the announcement that the album will be novelized by science fiction author Kevin J. Anderson.
Anderson is a longtime friend of Rush lyricist/drummer Neil Peart and writes that the pair have been seeking a way to collaborate on a “MAJOR” project for 20 years, a wish that is now fulfilled with the planned book.
In Anderson’s mind, the opportunity presented by the project is one that ranks very high and he says comparatively, “imagine if someone had written the novel of ‘The Wall,’ ‘Tommy,’ or ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ when those classic albums were released. For Rush fans, ‘Clockwork Angels’ is that project.”
[Thinking out loud here, we’d have to think that if Anderson’s book does well, it would open the door for a series of other Rush-related books. You could probably do something really cool with ‘2112,’ right?]
“I worked together with Neil to flesh out the epic story told over the course of the music, as well as the artist Hugh Syme whose paintings fill the CD booklet,” Anderson continues. “In a young man’s quest to follow his dreams, he is caught between the grandiose forces of order and chaos. He travels across a lavish and colorful world of steampunk and alchemy, with lost cities, pirates, anarchists, exotic carnivals, and a rigid Watchmaker who imposes precision on every aspect of daily life.”
He says that he’s working on the chapters now and “incorporating the lyrics into the narrative,” promising that additional details will follow.

Pero luego en ese mismo artículo pone que la salida está programada para primeros de verano. En qué quedamos???
Yo tampoco puedo aguantar al disco del año......... o de la década........................ o del milenio!!
Bueno, sé de buena tinta que por aquí andamos algunos que suspiramos por los huesitos de Geddy, Neil y Alex, y que encima nos desvirgamos en directo este verano.
Yo venía a decir que de RUSH, siempre SIEMPRE tengo ganas. De hecho tengo toda la discografía en el ipod porque siempre es buen momento de escucharlos donde sea. Lo grande de ellos es que nunca dejas de descubrir o redescubrir sus discos. Y eso me lleva a decir que llevo como un mes obsesionado con Test For Echo. Hasta hace poco no lo tenía en una estima tan elevada... por ejemplo para mí no miraba de igual a igual a Presto o Couterparts. Y qué cojones... por fin ha prendido la mecha y explotado en mi cara. ME F-L-I-P-A el puto disco!!! Vamos, que hoy en día es mi favorito de ellos.
, aunque sea consciente que no es el mejor. Pero bueno, vosotros supongo que me entendéis eso de cambiar de disco favorito cada x tiempo.Desde el primer tema homónimo, en el que da hasta una clase magistral a Tool, la emocionante Driven con ese riffaco que corta con esos momentos plácidos, el maravilloso single Half The World, The Color Of Right que la he llegado a poner nosécuántas veces seguidas (cómo me gusta este tema.. . cuando empieza con ese "take it easy on me now"..... es una nube tú, en una puta nube!!), Time Motion no me terminaba de convencer esos primeros synths (ya me da igual) pero esa cadencia y riff hipnótico que tiene el tema es bestial, la vitalista Totem con ese estribillo que me vuelve loco, la rockera Dog Years, esas guitarras más jevis en Virtuality, el megabaladón que es Resist, la instrumental Limbo que no desentona en absoluto y con una parte final que me mola mucho, y la última Carve Away The Stone que cierra el disco de forma magistral, como no podía ser de otra manera.
Es que es bueníiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisimo de pe a pa. Hasta la producción equilibrada que tiene también me parece cojonuda!! Y pues eso, que quería reivindicarlo como lo merece.
Ay que TEMARRACO por dioooghhsssss, es que se me caen hasta lagrimones cada vez que lo esucho:

Hay una banda americana de rock prog. llamada "Crucible" cuyo vocalista se asemeja muchísimo a Geddy Lee de la 1ª época.

No concibo mi vida sin el maravilloso "Test For Echo". La única pega que tiene es que nunca lo editaran en vinilo. Por todo lo demás, obra maestrísima.

A mi por el Test for Echo todavía no me ha dado en serio, controlo mas o menos la mitad de los temas pero es de los discos con los que todavía no me ha dado el bucle. Pero como ya digo, todavía... tratandose de Rush se que tarde o temprano llegará su momento.
Por otra parte ganazas de Clockwork Angels, los dos temas que tocaron en esta gira me fliparon...

Este mediodía he vuelto a escuchar el tándem "Caravan"/"BU2B". Hacía tiempo que no lo hacía, concretamente desde ayer. Si el "Clockwork Angels" sigue este nivel estaremos ante una epopeya inalcanzable. El de Van Halen ya puede empezar a hacer sitio.

Lo poco que se sabe hasta ahora es que la gira empezará en verano, sin fecha concreta, pero en Estados Unidos y Canadá. Yo compré el single doble en el concierto, y le he dado mucha cera. Me encantan... y en directo sonaron supercalifragilisticoespiálidosos!!
Pero llevo varios meses en que no los he escuchado por no querer quemarlos y esperarme a escucharlos en el conjunto del disco completo. Si no fuera por eso estaría todos los días escuchando esos dos épicos temones.

Yo, tras darle muchas vueltas he dividido en 3 los niveles de acceso a Rush: básico, avanzado y experto... en bloques de 6 discos cada uno. Está claro que no todo el mundo es igual, y a lo mejor a alguien que es muy metalero o más light cambiarías el orden. Y ese orden de niveles está basado entre mis propias preferencias (sí y no, porque algunos los podría subir o bajar de nivel), pero también a la accesibilidad de las obras o los que crees que sean más prioritarios o incluso por situación en la historia de la propia banda.
En fin, allá voy con la mía:
NIVEL BASICO: Rush / Fly By Night / 2112 / Permanent Waves / Moving Pictures / Counterparts
NIVEL AVANZADO: A Farewell To Kings / Hemispheres / Signals / Presto / Test For Echo / Snakes & Arrows
NIVEL EXPERTO: Caress Of Steel / Grace Under Pressure / Power Windows / Hold Your Fire / Roll The Bones / Vapor Trails

Por supuestísimo el Farewell To Kings podría estar en el BASICO. Adoro Xanadu como uno de mis temas favoritos de Rush, está un megahitazo como Closer To The Heart, o Cygnus X-1 Book I es supermegacósmica!!! Pero aquí el meter Counterparts es porque creo que sería una buena idea meter también algo de su discografía más "reciente" y posterior a los 80s, y Counterparts es perfecto (aunque me guste tanto como Presto o Test For Echo por ejemplo del que hablé maravillas hace unos días de la enganchada que llevaba con él).

Todo depende de la biografía de la persona que los escucha por primera vez. Mejor no calentarse la cabeza, y que empiecen por el primero... o que lo dejen al azar... al menos manejando la información de los matices según década.

Yo, tras darle muchas vueltas he dividido en 3 los niveles de acceso a Rush: básico, avanzado y experto... en bloques de 6 discos cada uno. Está claro que no todo el mundo es igual, y a lo mejor a alguien que es muy metalero o más light cambiarías el orden. Y ese orden de niveles está basado entre mis propias preferencias (sí y no, porque algunos los podría subir o bajar de nivel), pero también a la accesibilidad de las obras o los que crees que sean más prioritarios o incluso por situación en la historia de la propia banda.
En fin, allá voy con la mía:
NIVEL BASICO: Rush / Fly By Night / 2112 / Permanent Waves / Moving Pictures / Counterparts
NIVEL AVANZADO: A Farewell To Kings / Hemispheres / Signals / Presto / Test For Echo / Snakes & Arrows
NIVEL EXPERTO: Caress Of Steel / Grace Under Pressure / Power Windows / Hold Your Fire / Roll The Bones / Vapor Trails
Es más jodido de lo que parece, eh? Yo le estuve dando vueltas hace unos días en un curso del curro en el que me estaba aburriendo un huevo.

Yo siempre he pensado que tienen como para recomendar en función de los gustos del oyente que se decida a probar por primera vez, si es de gustos metaleros, progresivos, poperos, hard-rockeros etc...tienen para contentar a todo el mundo
Yo siempre recomiendo la trilogía Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures y Signals, y de ahí saltar hacia adelante y atrás en su discografía para acabar de quedar con la boca abierta.

Pese a la calidad de los álbumes tengo comprobado que la comercialidad de la 3ª época hace que le gusten a muchísima gente a la primera de cambio.

Rush fans who have waited five years for new pearls of wisdom from their favorite band will soon be satisfied. According to reports that have not been confirmed by their label, their new album, ‘Clockwork Angels,’ will be released on May 29 in the United States, Japan and their native Canada.
The news comes courtesy of the Examiner, who saw pre-order listings for ‘Clockwork Angels’ on Amazon.com and their international sites. However, Ultimate Classic Rock wrote to their label, who would not confirm a release date.
‘Clockwork Angels’ will be Rush’s 19th studio album and first since 2007′s ‘Snakes and Arrows.’ Two songs from the new record, ‘Caravan’ and ‘BU2B,’ were released to radio and digitally in June 2010, and as a 7″ single for Record Store Day 2011. The two-year delay between the release of the single and the album is due to the extension of the ‘Time Machine’ tour.
As with ‘Snakes and Arrows,’ the band hired Nick Raskulinecz, who has worked with Velvet Revolver, Foo Fighters and Weezer, to produce. Last month, we reported that lyrical themes throughout ‘Clockwork Angels’ dealt with, as bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee put it, “a different kind of future and the whole aesthetic of steampunk, which is so cool.”

Llevaba bastante tiempo sin estar con el trío Canadiense. Soy un puto fan de su música desde hace 25 años. Voy por la 2ª escucha hoy de "Counterparts" y aunque mañana diga otro, me parece una OBRA MAESTRA, entre sus mejores creaciones. Dr. tengo un problema ??????

Llevo un tiempo con el ojo puesto en hacerme la colección completa de RUSH en vinilo. He empezado y ya tengo el Hemispheres, A Show Of Hands y Hold Your Fire (con tour program incluído de esa gira!). Buenos precios, EX mínimo, pero intentando el MINT. No tengo prisa, poco a poco.
Hoy pujando me he hecho con otros dos. Uno me ha parecido una ganga, PRESTO a 16 pavos (gastos incluídos), MINT & UNPLAYED USA press creo que de su año, y vendedor muy fiable.
El otro ha sido el ROLL THE BONES, y como bien imaginaréis bastante más caro, 51 euros. Esta es una edición europea (aunque no sé de dónde), también creo que de su año, pero sobre todo que... también es MINT & UNPLAYED!!
Vamos, deben estar impecables. Y bueno, al ser del mismo vendedor creo que 6 euros me puede rebajar para sólo computar unos gastos de envío en lugar de 6 a cada. Qui cir, el Roll The Bones a 45€!!
Lo del Roll The Bones, a lo mejor se me ha ido la pinza un poco, pero realmente creo que nunca lo he visto por debajo de 60 euros.
Qué opináis mis RUSHfriends??
En fin, yo poco a poco quiero hacerme la colección, aunque el TEST FOR ECHO no está editando en vinilo, verdad? Joder, qué putada...

Me faltan unos cuantos. Corté el grifo de las compras x problemas de espacio (y ahora están todos en España criando polvo...). Creo que hasta el "Hold your fire" los tengo todos.
No sabía que el "Roll the bones" estaba tan cotizado. La última vez que lo tuve en busca y captura lo vi en todocoleccion a 10 lereles. Joder, si lo llego a saber lo compro .
