Siempre me habia tomado muy a coña (y en cierta forma creo que él también) todos sus desvarios, cuestiones políticas, religiosas, personales, etc casi siempre cargadas de mucho humor negro, expuesto en sus letras y declaraciones. Supongo que una parte iba totalmente en serio, y con los años parece que cada vez más, aparte de un visible y progresivo deterioro físico (en la gira de dead again creo que tuvo que cancelar algunos conciertos por problemas de salud y recuerdo leer reviews que contaban que a Steele se le veia jodidísimo).

Hace un par de años, después de ver este video en el que se le ve tan hundido hablando de la muerte de familares cercanos, cómo se sintió traicionado cuando algunos de éstos le mandaron en contra de su voluntad y aprovechando sus circunstancias de debilidad a un sanatorio mental y cómo le afectó tan negativamente su paso por la cárcel, por primera vez me pareció que de broma poco quedaba ya, y me entristeció bastante. Las letras del último disco (uno de sus mejores para mí) cobraron un significado aún más negativo y lleno de rabia y rencor.

Y ahora ésto, vaya puta mierda. Una muerte que al menos a mí me da bastante pena, no sé si por ser un músico de "mi generación" o por parecerme un tipo siempre entrañable y con mucho talento. Me cuesta creerlo aunque él mismo ya hubiera bromeado con ésto muchas veces. En fin...

el october rust es uno de los mejores discos de los 90, y no es una afirmacion gratuita, de esta banda solo he escuchado el citado y bloody kisses, a y tambien soy de los que compro aquella revista con el i dont wanna me... jeje, una banda que casi nunca me entran ganas de escuchar

Una verdadera pena, cuando salto el rumor en el foro no dije nada porque esperaba y queria que alguien dijese que todo habia sido una broma.

Ahora mismo estoy escuchando el "bloody kisses", recuerdo que tuve una epoca en que escuche muchisimo este disco, siempre me habian gustado los ritmos pesados y algo melancolicos y este disco me llego desde el principio, es mas, en el grupo en el que tocaba, versionabamos su "summer breeze", no era ningun virtuoso pero sabia perfectamente como hacer buenas canciones y melodias, me quedara la pena de no haberlo visto nunca en directo, me hubiese gustado y mucho.

It is with great sadness that we inform you that Type O Negative front man, bassist, and our band mate, Peter Steele passed away last night of what appears to be heart failure.

Ironically Peter had been enjoying a long period of sobriety and improved health and was imminently due to begin writing and recording new music for our follow up to "Dead Again" released in 2007.

The official cause of death has yet to be determined pending autopsy results. The funeral services will be private and memorial services will be announced at a future date. We’d like to share our thoughts and those of Peter’s family below.
We are truly saddened to lose our friend and appreciate the tremendous outpouring today from around the world.

Both good and bad, we went on one hell of a ride together and sadly, the ride has come to an end. You truly were a unique person. Your music touched many people. Myself included. Whether it was talking about The Beatles, power tools, how Pluto was no longer considered a planet or calling me at 3am asking me to drive to your house to have a fistfight with you, you always kept it interesting. It was a privilege to have been your bandmate. It’s something that I will always cherish.”

In a statement issued today by Steele`s family: “Legendary Goth/Heavy Metal musician Peter Steele died suddenly Wednesday, April 14, 2010, after a short illness at the age of 48. He wrote and orchestrated the music for the Brooklyn-based band Type O Negative, a groundbreaking group known for its dramatic lyrical emphasis on the themes of romance, depression, and death. Steele, renowned as much for his striking physical appearance as his musical talent, was the creative force behind the bands 20-year success writing most of the material for the their albums. Type O Negative and Steele have been lauded as a major influence by numerous alternative and metal bands. The band gained a worldwide following through touring and recording seven studio albums, two best-of compilations, concert DVDs and music videos. Their 1993 album “Bloody Kisses” went platinum, and the 1996 follow-up “October Rust” went gold.

The music world has lost a great talent, and music fans worldwide are mourning, but for our family we are mourning a beloved brother, uncle, cousin, friend and funny man. Peter Steele was a complex man, known for his brooding looks, his self-deprecating sense of humor, unique view of the world, and most of all his loyalty to his fans, friends and family. joder, se le veia demacrado en los últimos años sí. Pero tan inflado nunca habia visto ninguna foto. bueno, yo al menos no era consciente de que estaba en las últimas, me ha cogido muy por sorpresa. De hecho, últimamente estaba entrando en su web de vez en cuando porque pensaba que como hacia ya 3 años del último, cualquier dia se anunciaria que estarian grabando el nuevo disco. Triste dia el de ayer, se le echará mucho de menos.

Una grandísima pérdida, de Type tengo tres discos originales, Origin, Bloody y October, por cierto, aún conservo una camiseta del October Rust.

No era un gran músico, ni un gran compositor pero seguramente, uno de los tipos mas carismáticos y ocurrentes del metal, sin duda alguna, leerle en alguna entrevista era de lo mas enriquecedor del mundo, con ese humor tan peculiar y afilado, una de las personalidades mas abrumadoras que recuerdo, me viene a la memoria una entrevista en la que despotricaba contra todas las bandas y señalaba que mucha gente montaba una banda porque no servían ni para barrer las calles, qué grande, por favor, y qué putada.

Señor lobo, aunque igual ahora no es el momento más apropiado para discutirlo, ahí pienso que patina, en las 2 décadas de exitencia de type o negative el tio escribió auténticos temazos para parar un carro. Era un maestro enlazando preciosas melodias con riffs oscurísimos, y partes de puro hardcore. y encima sin que nada de esto sonara a pastiche, con un sonido propio y una personalidad aplastante. Lo pienso y no me sale ni una banda ligeramente parecida a ellos. Podia versionear a los beatles, como a black sabbath o Neil young, y le quedaban de puta madre, adáptandolas a su estilo.

En lo demás obviamente, totalmente deacuerdo, un tipo único, con un sentido del humor afiladísimo, y que proporcionaba grandes momentos siempre, ya fuera en forma de discos, directos o entrevistas (carcajadas aseguradas). Que pena, no me lo quito de la cabeza. Descanse en paz.

Un pedazo de compositor. Los type no sonaban como nada que hubiese sido, y tenian demasiados imitadores... Consiguieron mezclar muchas cosas creando un producto propio y de calidad. No tienen ningun disco malo, lo cual es un exito. Y hay que decir que a cada cual mejor.

Estes donde estes Peter, sigue dando caña.

Profits Of Doom (Type O Negative). Homenaje a Peter Steele

En esta ocasión no vamos a retroceder demasiado en el tiempo sino a realizar un homenaje al recientemente fallecido Peter Steele y su último legado con Type O Negative, el álbum Dead Again publicado en 2007, año en el que el vocalista decidiera reactivar de nuevo la maquinaria, revitalizándola a un alto nivel confeccionando un álbum que ratificaba la trayectoria de Type O Negative porque se podían encontrar todos los elementos reconocibles en su habitual sonido pero encajados con una soltura y eficacia demoledoras. Con Dead Again, Pete demostró que las ideas seguían aflorando con fluidez exponiendo un equilibrio entre los cortes que desprendían frescura, con voces distendidas y una dinámica rítmica diáfana y los que estaban envueltos en atmósferas oscuras de una aplastante densidad, con riffs mastodónticos de clara influencia procedente de Black Sabbath y vocalización dramática. De entre todos los temas “Profits Of Doom” es uno más de su característico sonido.

creo que hoy la he escuchado como mas de 10 veces, es un tema que no le habia prestado mucha atencion, pero hoy me ha cogido de los cojones, lo que mas me gusta es ese climax final a mitad que empieza a mitad de tema, casi puedo decir que se ha convertido en uno de mis top ten de temas favoritos de toda la historia

Discazo, menuda enganchada tuve hace unos meses con él. El único pero que le pongo a esta obra maestra, y en general a todos sus discos, es el sonido. No me gusta la producción, sobre todo las guitarras, aunque supongo que son deudoras de su época.
