ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION BASSIST PAUL GODDARD DIES

Founding Atlanta Rhythm Section bassist Paul Goddard died today at the age of 68 after a brief, sudden illness. “We are saddened by the passing of our bass player and dear friend,” the group declared on their Facebook page. “Rest in peace P.G.’
Goddard played on all of the group’s big hits, including ‘Imaginary Lover,’ So Into You‘ and ‘I’m Not Gonna Let it Bother Me Tonight.’ His melodic, tasteful tone reportedly convinced Rolling Stones readers to declare his work on ‘Another Man’s Woman,’ from the group’s 1979 live album ‘Are You Ready!,’ as one of the top five bass solos of all time. (You can hear it below.)
We got our own taste of the loyalty of ARS fans a while back, when we screwed up and left ‘Imaginary Lover’ off our list of Imaginary Girlfriend Songs. As you can see, after a flood of e-mails and (mostly friendly) Twitter attacks, we quickly corrected our mistake.
The Atlanta Rhythm Section formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1970 and was originally comprised of Goddard, singer Rodney Justo, guitarists Barry Bailey and James Cobb, keyboardist Dean Daughtry and drummer Robert Nix. Justo departed the group in 1972 and was replaced by Ronnie Hammond. Goddard left in the mid-’80s but returned along with Justo in 2011, performing with the group right up until his passing.
“I knew Paul when he was a guitarist, and maybe that’s why his bass playing was so musical,” Justo said. “And to go with that musicality was a unique sound that made him so identifiable to fans and other musicians as well. Yes, at one time he was ‘that big fat guy that played bass,’ but once he started playing, he wasn’t fat. He was a giant.”

Me gusta mucho Strictly R & R, la canción que cierra The Boys from Doraville.

Se describía así en el vinilo

Another uptempo number closes the album with reflections back to the early days when "we didn't know but a couple of chords, but we played them both with feel and it felt unreal." Perhaps the music business had left ARS wishing for simpler times, but "the guitar player's learned to play and singer's learned to sing" and they were continuing to make great music.

No deja de ser lo que pretende: un rocanrol de manual. A la vista de la letra, quisieron que fuera lo más básico posible. Una letra con un punto de vista que no puede ser más paternalista y perdonavidas respecto a sus propios comienzos. Aquellos tiempos en los que hacían simplemente rock and roll.

Lo interesante es que, pese a todo ello, esta canción tiene un estribillo tan euforizante... que te hace pensar al acabar el disco: ahora sois mejores, pero antes erais más divertidos.

Buddy Buie passed away today…..for those of you that don’t know, Buddy was the force that produced, wrote for, managed, and led the way for us to become The Atlanta Rhythm Section.
No Buddy….no ARS
Just last week Buddy shared his enthusiasm, and support, for the band, saying he wanted to come hear the new songs we added to the show.
We will miss Buddy’s contributions, musically, professionally, and most of all personally.
The guys…..

A mi no me ha entrado nunca esta banda y mira que le he dado oportunidades, me aburre en demasía. Yo es que soy mas del Southern heavy, de los Atlanta me quedo con el tema Homesick y poquito mas, ese si es mas de mi palo.

Está claro que ARS nunca fueron los más duros e intensos en la historia del Southern rock, tenían un sonido propio que los emparentaba con sus hermanos del Sur pero desde una perspectiva más soft y elaborada,pero también tienen temas potentes y sobretodo en directo eran unas máquinas.......... :Iroks:
